Phylloxera

Native to North America, phylloxera is a small aphid that feeds on the roots of grape vines. It was accidentally imported to Europe around 1860 and caused havoc. In the end, most European vineyards had to be dug up and replaced with vines grafted onto American rootstock that was resistant to the pest.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
