Cru

Cru is a French term used to denote a high quality vineyard or group of vineyards.

Red Burgundy wines are classified based on their cru. In French, crû means growth and it simply means that the wine is legally verified as a product of Burgundy. Grand Cru refers to the quality of particular vineyard while Premier Cru is a classification just below that of Grand Cru.
