Chardonnay Grape Variety
Chardonnay is the 8th most planted grape variety in Italy and it is the most widely planted white grape variety in the world. As you would expect, the flavour of Chardonnay is heavily influenced by the climate, the terroir it’s grown it, the methods of ageing, and the ripeness at the time of harvest. Generally, Chardonnay is known to be a dry, medium-bodied white with with fresh notes of pear, lemon peel, apple, and guava. If you add oak to the ageing process then the flavour profile changes considerably and then you have vanilla (not unexpectedly), butter, and even pineapple.
