Alberello vines

The traditional practice of training grapes to grow as a bush is known as alberello (vite ad alberello) in Italy. This practice is very labour-intensive but has the advantages of allowing maximum light for each vine as well as the vine being strong enough to withstand winds. This method of growing grapes dates back to the time of the Etruscans and the Greeks.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
