Botti

Botti (plural) are traditional large wooden casks used for ageing wine. These casks have been long been used to age wine and ageing in wood can give vanilla, butter, and spice flavours to wine. Botti are expensive to buy and if looked after can last for generations. In Italy winemakers generally use Slovenian oak for the very large botti but we have also seen botti made from Austrian oak.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
