The historic centres of many small Italian towns have suffered from depopulation and, in order to bring them back to life, the Italians have devised this idea. An albergo diffuso is a hotel where the accommodation is made up of small apartments scattered throughout a small village. Generally, they will have a central reception and dining room and then you will be living as part of the community, albeit briefly. It may sound a little strange but I have stayed in several of them and they work very well.
