An Italian solution to an Italian problem. Most Italian farms are small family-run operations and many are not financially viable. To help support them, the Italian government introduced the agriturismo scheme. Basically, they get a tax break if they take in paying guests. They vary enormously from the simplest farmhouse to sophisticated affairs with custom-built accommodation and swimming pools. They are very popular with Italians.
